80 Minutes Around The World Presents:  Asian and Pacific Islander Stores

Thursday, March 2   |   7PM-8:30PM
AHML Hendrickson Room

Nestor "the Boss" Gomez returns with an evening of storytelling in celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI), with a stellar lineup!

We are thrilled to welcome:

Anne Shimojima has been telling stories from her Asian heritage and around the world for forty years at festivals, schools, libraries, senior communities, and lately, on Zoom. She was a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in 2017 and has twice been a Teller-in-Residence at the International Storytelling Center in Tennessee. Anne has performed her family’s World War II Story in Japan at the invitation of the Japanese government and you can hear some of her favorite Japanese folk tales on her award-winning CD, Sakura Tales: Stories from Japan.

Elizabeth Gomez's brash sense of humor reflects how much she was ignored as a child. She is a writer, podcaster, performer, and desperate for attention so sign up for her substack newsletter Mixed Race Tape.

Archy Jamjun is the curator of Outspoken LGBTQ stories at Sidetrack and a two time winner of The Moth Grand Slam. He was recently featured in Future of Comedy Festival at The Lincoln Lodge and has written for Chicago Magazine. He works in hospitality and is a cat dad.

Jitesh Jaggi ended his career in Finance one day when he lost all the data that he forgot to save on an Excel sheet, and realized that he just didn't care. That tipping point led to him becoming a writer and he is currently working on a book of essays. Having traveled the world Jitesh Jaggi teaches how despite our backgrounds, our fears and hopes are surprisingly common! He is an immigrant storyteller from India, poet and dancer currently living in Chicago.

Rahul Sharma, child of immigrants, is the youngest of 4. He and his brother were born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, while his two older sisters were born in Nairobi, Kenya. He still hasn't quite forgiven his sisters for this patently unfair reality. Rahul's parents were also born in Nairobi, the children of immigrants themselves, as their parents migrated from India to Kenya in search of a sustainable living.
